ACO REACH

CMS’ new ACO REACH (Realizing Equity, Access, and Community Health) Model is the redesigned and renamed Direct Contracting (DC) Model. Similar to its predecessor, ACO REACH is designed with two risk-sharing options in mind and focuses on empowering beneficiaries, reducing provider burden and accelerating risk assumption.

Understand the transition from Direct Contracting to ACO REACH in our related blog post.

The ACO REACH application period for Performance Year 2023 and the optional Implementation Period (running August 1, 2022, through December 31, 2022) is March 7, 2022, to April 22, 2022.

Organizations currently participating in the DC Model will be permitted to continue participating in the ACO REACH Model, provided they maintain a strong compliance record and agree to meet the requirements of the ACO REACH Model by January 1, 2023. It is anticipated that this will be the only application period offered for the ACO REACH Model, which is set to run through Performance Year 2026.

Organizations that want to drive success in ACO REACH will need to:

  • Understand readiness for advanced risk
  • Identify the pace of adoption of these models in the market
  • Actuarially assess available options to optimize performance
